odour mapping barcelona   The first face-to-face meeting and fourth meeting in total of the group dealing with a new Spanish standard on the use of psychometry to map odours took place in Barcelona in September. A group of 10 experts met to discuss this new text that hopefully will become a new standard, but how is going to be named the text? Mapping odour? mapping annoyance? Collaborative mapping?

This group is taking another step on traditional psychometry using citizen observations to try to take a photo of the odour impact in a certain area with alternative tools. In this case, instead of using surveys, diaries or performing personal interviews, the maps are being made dynamically by using an app that print time and location of an odour observation.

WG41meeting barcelona   WG41 is having an intensive year 2019 as more meetings than usual are happening this year. Last one took place in Barcelona, Spain only two months after the WG41 meeting in Bilbao, Spain. 12 experts from Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain sat to discuss issues related to the use of Instrumental Odour Monitoring Systems (IOMS).

Some very important issues were discussed during the meeting. One of them related to the Quality Assurance Levels (QAL) of the IOMS, to be precise with the QAL1. It seems that there will not be a specific group dealing with a procedure to demonstrate that the IOMS is suitable for the intended purpose before installation.

wg41 meeting bilbao 2019 2The 13th meeting of the Working Group (WG) 41 of the Technical Committee (TC) 264 on air quality of the European Standard Committee (CEN) dealing with Instrumental Odour Monitoring Systems (IOMS) coded as CEN/TC 264/WG 41, took place in Bilbao, Spain the 3rd and 4th of July. A total of 16 experts met to discuss the new standard on IOMSs, previously known as e-noses.

A new Task Group 5 (TG5) was created in the previous meeting in Milan in order to deal with the implications of the standards on Automatic Measuring Systems (AMS) EN 141881 and EN 15267, on IOMSs. Among the many issues addressed in this meeting in Bilbao, a new proposal to bring a Quality Assurance Level (QAL) 1 was discussed.
